Serving Jesus & Loving It: The How

Importance of Serving Jesus >> How to Serve Jesus

HOW DO I SERVE JESUS AND LOVE IT?

Believe it or not, there is a very simple answer to that question. Serving Jesus and loving it isn’t just “a nice thought” and it isn’t one of the things where you have to “fake it until you make it.” It is not something that only “certain” people can have and it is absolutely attainable for every believer. In fact, it is one of the many gifts that God gives all of His children, and as with any other gift, you cannot enjoy the gift given until you receive it!

“Ask, using my name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy.” -John 16:24

Let’s convert this Scripture to a mathematical formula:

Ask + Receive = Abundant Joy

I believe we have the first part down, which is to ASK; however, it’s the second part many fail at, which is to RECEIVE. We know the standard definition of “receive” is to come into possession of; however, we often forget that receive also means to “act as a receptacle or container for” and this is key to receiving many things in the kingdom of God. We often use the first definition then get stuck, thinking after we ask it’s somehow going to find its way to us. While this is somewhat true, what we fail to realize is that if we do not become as a receptacle for the things of God then it doesn’t matter how many things He sends our way because we’ll never receive them. You must literally allow yourself to become a receptacle in order to receive the many great gifts God has for you.

How to Receive?

First you must realize that a gift is never something that is earned but is something that is given and received. By definition, according to Webster, a gift is something voluntarily transferred by one person to another without compensation. This means you don’t work for it (compensation). Have you ever given a gift to your children on a special occasion (birthday, holiday) though they may have made mistakes throughout the year? Yes? This is what Jesus tell us:

“If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” -John 7:11

God has given you the Holy Spirit at the moment you accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior, and within the Holy Spirit unspeakable joy as well as our ability to commune with God.

Second, ask in prayer, in Jesus’ name and believe. While in prayer, be sure you remove any HINDRANCES to prayer. If you ask God to show you how to enjoy Him AND your life in Jesus’ name, He will most certainly do so. “Therefore, I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours” -Mark 11:24

Third, RECEIVE! Part of the receiving process is to actually LET God show you how to enjoy Him. If you let Him, He will change your desires, thoughts, attitude and anything else needed so that you can not just life, but live abundantly through Jesus Christ. Open your complete self to God, like a receptacle or and empty container, and receive the many blessings God has for you!

“If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” -Matthew 21:22

Enjoying Jesus!

Enjoying your life in Christ is a blood-bought privilege that every Christian has the right to enjoy. Old religious traditions suggest that a life of holiness was a commitment to a life of misery, which is simply untrue. While trials, tribulations and persecutions will occur at one time or another in a believer’s life, JOY is a fruit that abides in us through the Holy Spirit. This means that joy is as much as a part of our daily lives as the Holy Spirit is! We must then learn how to tap into this treasure to have it manifest into our daily lives.
