The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life. –John 6:63. If Jesus quote listed above doesn’t answer that question, answer this: How long do you suppose you could survive without any type of food? Do you believe this would effect you mentally as well as physically? I believe we can agree that simply put the answers to these two questions are: “not long” and “yes.” It’s common knowledge that we cannot last long without food and we would grow weaker each day that we couldn’t eat. We also know that starvation effects every aspect of life, especially our mentality and physicality.
The Word of God is essential to the spirit man just as food is to our body. If you can recall in Matthew 4, when the devil was tempting Jesus during His 40 day fast, Jesus’ response to the first temptation was: “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”—Matthew 4:4
Another quote from Jesus is from John 6:63: The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit [a] and they are life. –John 6:63.
These two Scriptures makes it very clear that we, as people, need more than just food for our bodies, but also The Word of God which brings forth life. Similar to food, the Word of God provides our spirits with all the nutrients we need to live, and live more abundantly.
